Katie
(key of E)

Reaching way back for this one. Aug. 15-17, 1995. Weighing in at 7 years this song is easily the oldest living song known to the album, "Land of the Living". This is most definitely an "early" one in the career of EP.

Working alongside “Katie” that summer in Colorado, I learned that she dealt with some of the same issues and struggles that I had. I had hoped to encourage her a little by writing this for her. Since it was written late in the summer I only had the chance to play it for her one time before we left for home, but I promised her that if I ever got around to recording it I'd send her a copy. We fell out of touch over the course of those 7 years and only recently was I finally able to get in touch with her again and send her the finished song that bears her name and imprint.

you say you feel alone and twisted inside
but hope in the One and look for the light
I know sometimes it's hard to hear
when days seem like years
it's hard to hear

Katie don't cry your blue eyes red
silence is lonely when nothing is said
your smile is enough to make me see
that Jesus is real, Katie

when trust is the hardest thing to do
know that a friend has been there too
when all you do, it seems, is wait
to hear your name
Lord, we will wait

Katie don't cry your blue eyes red
cling to your faith, even if by a thread
your smile is enough to make me see
that Jesus is real, Katie

I will smile
when I think of you

Katie don't cry your blue eyes red
cling to your faith, even if by a thread
your smile is enough to make me see
that Jesus is real, Katie
