Thanks for the post, Mr. Eric. For the last several years I've watched national championship game with the dispassion of a regular season NBA game. This year, it was different. I was pulling for the Tigers like crazy. With new Nebraska head coach Bo Pellini as Tiger defensive coordinator and Eric Peters as superfan, I had two good excuses to set my normally reserved disposition aside and scream at the TV like a banshee. Little did I know that Eric Peters was ... THERE! Man oh man.

As your posts often do, this one resonated with me on several levels. I shared a national championship game with my lifelong bud Ron; Nebraska and Florida at the Fiesta Bowl just over ten years ago. As a young married man, I experienced the quirky uniqueness of New Orleans with my wife Deb. And as a guy that was the starting varsity point guard as a freshman in high school (definitely bragging) yet also played Mr. McAfee in Bye Bye Birdie, I've experienced the sort of incongruency or even down the nose stares that come from being passionate about and living in two different worlds. "Rudy" is one of my favorite movies (though I also like foreign films). ELDER WARNING: Getting a little choked up or teary eyed at sporting contests only gets worse with age.

As Don Williams sings in "Good Ole Boys Like Me" (I like country music too): "I guess were all gonna be what were gonna be ... so what do ya do with good ol' boys like me ... "

Geaux Tigers! (At least for that game. I was glad to see them win!) We love college football. We usually don't have the TV on all the time, but the exceptions have been college football Saturdays and now, political debates. (We're nerds.) Anyway, excepting the enjoyment of the little white golf ball (I think I was glutted with that too much growing up) this definitely makes you a well-rounded person. But I'm still not sure about you using the term "mancation," EP! ;)

Sounds like you had a great time in N'Orleans. My grandmother was from there but I haven't been to visit since I was a little girl. Your description makes me want to go back.

It was GREAT seeing you and Danielle and Ellis on Saturday night. Here's hoping we can find some more time to spend together when the boys aren't past their bedtime. J fell asleep before we were even out of the church parking lot! I hope E was the same!
